Baby's First Smokey Eye with Sleek MakeUP

Makeup is all about having fun and experimenting, right? I've been pushing myself to try a lot of new things and let go of the notion that I can't pull something off. One such thing being a smokey eye. My translucent skin/dark under eye area had me convinced I wasn't cut out for this kind of look, but whatever! I did it anyway!

Using Sleek MakeUP's Storm palette, I gave myself a smokey-blue cat eye, diffused with a mix of browns and a light hand. The royal blue used in my outer v produces quite a bit of fallout but I just tap the excess off and use a kabuki brush to clean my under eyes and cheeks afterward. This really is an awesome earthy toned palette with super wearable shades, great blendability, and nice textures. Even if some colors create a little mess, it's still totally worth its $9.99 price tag!

Products Used:

Sonia Kashuk Eye Couture in Eye On Neutral 02 (Read my review here)
Physician's Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum in Ultra Black

L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Black Lacquer Mascara
Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner in Nude
e.l.f. Eyebrow Kit in Medium

Shocked as you may be that I'm using that Sonia Kashuk palette, I have to say I really like that one orange shade. Combining it with a bit of Storm's matte chocolate brown created a great transition color to diffuse all of that blue. Shame on me for skipping primer—though this obviously speaks to Sleek MakeUP's great pigmentation!

Step 1: Pat silvery blue onto eyelid with an eyeshadow brush.
Step 2: Apply mid-tone brown to outer crease and blend with a blending brush.
Step 3: Apply royal blue to outer 1/3 of eyelid + crease, blend with a crease brush.
Step 4: Apply black to crease to deepen the blue and blend.
Step 5: Diffuse blue edge with mid-tone brown/orange.
Step 6: Apply pale champagne as highlight to brow bone with finger.
Step 7: Apply gold shimmer to tear duct with finger.
Step 8: Line lower lash line with bronze eyeliner, set with gold shimmer.
Step 9: Give yourself wings!

I totally wore this out to a movie Friday night where I'd be in the safety of darkness. Ha! I'm not behind it 100%, more like 80%. What do you guys think?

  1. i think this is so great and you look so amazing! i love that it's a blue smoky eye instead of the typical black/grey. you are so much better at mixing and matching eye shadow colors than i am. i'm always amazed by your make-up talents!

    1. Thank you so much, Emie! I was way too scared to go full-on black so blue seemed like a nice way to ease into it lol. xoxo

  2. I think it looks great! Love how you blended the brown above your crease to soften the look a bit. I don't necessarily believe in certain people not being able to wear particular looks or shades (like a smoky eye); you just have to make it work for you - which is exactly what you did. Go you! :)

Where does one buy Sleek Makeup? That's a brand I've never heard of, but that palette is really pretty!

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I definitely didn't want the blue/black to be too harsh especially because I'm always scared I'll end up looking like a raccoon...

Sleek MakeUP is a UK drugstore brand with GREAT quality products, though I've only tried their eyeshadow palettes, blush palettes and one lip product. You have to order it online at sleekmakeup.com but shipping to the US is super fast and less than $10. Totally worth it! I reviewed their candy collection back in August, you should check out that post! Their stuff is so great, really.

    2. So I'm quite possibly the biggest Anglophile who ever lived - how did I not know about this brand?! Thanks for the link and the review post! I might have to do some shopping.... ;)

    3. Haha, it's definitely hard to keep up when there are SO many brands out there. YouTube introduced me to Sleek MakeUP and now I freak out whenever they release new products! Their latest one is Vintage Romance and I'm trying to be smart and wait until they release their LE Christmas stuff to combine shipping. It's so hard though! I have a problem...

  3. I'm one of those awful readers who never comments, but I've come out of comment hibernation to say that it looks amazing. I'm quite literally in awe of your makeup styling. If you ever do any youtube tutorials for your makeup looks, I'd love to know because I have no idea how you get your looks so flawless. <3

    1. Aw, Danielle, thanks for finally commenting! You're so sweet! I have to admit that I've been pretty lazy about getting my YouTube channel started, but it's partly because getting the right setup has been more of a challenge than I anticipated. Soon though, I promise!!

    1. OMG, it's awesome, isn't it? Emie actually recommended it to me after I started complaining about Almay changing their formula in what used to be my HG liner. I actually think I prefer it over the Stila's Stay All Day which is supposed to be even better. And I'm glad you like these posts! :)

    2. I work 10 hour days in retail and this has literally been the only eyeliner that has stayed on my lids and not levitated to my brow-bone by the end of the day. I love seeing your posts when they appear on my dash- not just make up, but fashion and food too! I'm currently on my third (or fourth) blog and you have been one that I always get excited to read every time you appear in my feed!
