Turning 27 & Celebrating Year Two

The end of August and start of September holds two significant days for me. Those two days being my birthday and Andrew's and my wedding anniversary. It's still hard to believe we're married—let alone celebrating our 2-year anniversary! This year we took some time and enjoyed a short vacation while house-sitting for his parents.

Everything sort of jumbled together during that week and a half, as most vacations do, and ended with an incredible meal at an entirely-too-fancy restaurant as a gift from my in-laws. It was the perfect, and I mean perfect, excuse to finally break out my Sam Edelman Yara Lucite Heel sandals. They are absolutely the most gorgeous things I have ever put on my feet.

The food served at Oceanique was fantastic and we'll probably never go back again—ha! After our meal, we ended the night with a few cocktails at Billy Sunday (Rahm Emanuel walked in, strangely enough). Andrew's more of an Old Fashioned, served up kind of guy, whereas I like my alcohol to taste as little like alcohol as possible. Billy Sunday's Cobbler was just the drink for me.

Andrew surprised me with a horseback riding adventure on my birthday—something I'd never done before. I wasn't expecting to be as frightened as I was and it took some serious soul-searching to calm my nerves. The horses were beautiful and quite docile but still. Although it happened to be the hottest day of August, the trail was beautiful and the experience was a lot of fun and mostly pain-free. The sore thighs the next day? Whoa.

We also spent a day at the Lincoln Park Zoo (while it was 90° with 80% humidity), ate loads of food, did some frivolous shopping, and of course a good amount of relaxing. I'd like to say the end of my summer was awesome, but it's well into September and still 95° out. You guys know what I mean!

NOTW: June 5th Edition

After my last nail post I happened upon this gorgeous woman, Lianne La Havas, and her amazing outfit in W magazine. Of course now I love her and her music, and I was immediately inspired for my next manicure!

As usual, I had all of the polishes for this perfect color palette! From left to right: Wet n Wild in Black Crème, Essie in Waltz, Wet n Wild in Blazed, Sinful Colors in Summer Peach, and Wet n Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint and Silvivor.

The ombre nails took a couple of tries but I found that this method from The Beauty Department worked best. I used Waltz to I Need a Refresh-Mint to Blazed. So, now to the reason this post is so delayed... My dearest Andrew got into a pretty bad cycling accident and was hospitalized after losing consciousness the same day he took that photo up there!

The hospital stay was brief and after being monitored for 24 hours, they finally let him eat. It was probably the happiest he's ever been in a hospital. He's totally fine now, and cycling again, too. But it was very, very terrifying. I'm thankful it's over!

Big BIG News

I've posted about having commitment issues with my blog in the past, but my little hiatus is well justified this time. Promise! So, where have I been? Well...

ANDREW & I GOT MARRIED!

Pretty wild, huh? We've been together for over 4 years and totally love each other to death so logically we went to the courthouse and got married. BECAUSE. I didn't change my name, though, we're kind of considering changing both of our names to Santosquez or Velatos because why not? We hired the best wedding photographer we could find: Self Timer!

There were actually quite a few people at the marriage and civil union court. I guess September 2nd just had that something special. The judge who married us had the best name, too (Lionel Jean-Baptiste).

We had our wedding reception at State & Lake since we were downtown. You know, our party of two lunch date wedding reception:

Our minds were actually made up for quite some time about eloping. Neither of us are particularly religious or traditional, though I did, kind of, follow in my mother's footsteps. She married my father in a courthouse and it turns out she met my father on September 2nd! Now THAT is awesome. I actually had no idea until she and I spoke later that day. Like mother, like daughter I GUESS.
